The Lord's Work & Workers

SCOTLAND

Lanarkshire

In September, Gordon McCracken completed his second visit this year to ten primary schools in conjuction with Overtown Gospel Hall. He spoke at ten school assemblies and also ten times, more informally, to P6 and P7, reaching a total of 2176 children and 97 adults. The children and their teachers were all very attentive and welcoming. They trust the seeds sown will bear fruit and that these doors will remain open.

Glasgow

Joe Baxter and Martin Hunter had three weeks of Gospel Meetings in Harley Street Gospel Hall. Ten different unsaved people came overall. A lady from Barrhead who had been attending meetings there for some time was brought and one evening waited behind and trusted the Lord Jesus as her Saviour. Door work was very good, the atmosphere in the meetings was excellent, and Joe intends to write to a number of the contacts made. They would like to thank the assemblies for their prayer support.

Fife

Tent meetings were held in Craig Munro's garden in the village of Crosshill for three weeks in August. Most evenings, Craig shared the meetings with Jack Hay. Quite a few from the area and from nearby heard the gospel, some attending regularly. Some were hearing the gospel for the first time while others have been frequent attenders at tent meetings over the years. God willing, the assembly meeting in the Ballingry Gospel Hall will soon relocate to their new hall a few hundred yards from where the tent meetings have been traditionally held. Pray for what has been done in the tent and for the assembly as it continues its work in the new venue.

Blair Martin was at Innerleven Gospel Hall for two weeks in August. Children's meetings each night were well attended, about half being High School children. A later Gospel Meeting for adults had just a few in from the area. The assembly has a very good work at a Tuesday coffee morning and some of the locals who visit came at night to the Gospel Meeting. Blair also had some good conversations of the doorsteps.

Aberdeenshire

Graeme Smith speaks of the great blessing of sharing the gospel with many hundreds of school pupils this year. The assembly in Inverurie has seen new people at the family service as a result, with a few parents hearing the gospel for the first time. He would appreciate prayer for school visits for the rest of the year and also for the continuing work with the Scripture Unions. He is grateful for the provision of a small building for preparation of visuals and storage of children's materials and other gospel literature for distribution.

Isle of Lewis

John Grant was with the assembly in the Bayhead Gospel Hall, Stornoway from 31st August to 4th September. The subject was The Uniqueness of the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ: His Deity, His Humanity, His Death, His Ascension, His Lordship. The meetings were well attended by people from other churches in the town, one unsaved lady came on four evenings. The local believers were greatly helped and encouraged. Prayer for this isolated assembly would be appreciated.

Sandringham Gospel Hall: The assembly here were privileged to have L Craig for a week of ministry in September on "Future events in God's prophetic calendar". We were grateful that his health had improved sufficiently, following recent surgery, for him to come. The ministry was most profitable and we heard a clear statement of dispensational truth as the basis for all God's future dealing with Earth together with a well defined programme of coming events. The clear presentation of the things most surely believed among us was particularly helpful to a rising generation but everyone benefited greatly from the excellent ministry.

ENGLAND & WALES

Pray for the recommencement of the Drop-in and parent & toddlers group in Wythenshawe that Alison Downs is involved with on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Gospel Hall, that regulars and new folks will be reached by this work. Men from the Jobcentre are attending the Mill - all come to the Bible time, and have settled well. It is good to get to know these men, to show them the love of Christ in this practical way, and to see the difference that being occupied constructively makes to them. Pray for them as they listen to God's Word four days a week and benefit from learning new skills and gaining work experience. Also pray for K who is also there by his own choice. He was there some years ago and asked the Jobcentre if he could attend again. His father was a preacher of the gospel in Singapore and as a young boy he would give out leaflets with his dad. Sadly he has no salvation and is very bitter about his childhood. One reason he wanted to come back was he said he enjoyed the Bible time. He has asked to take a Bible home with him so he could read it when alone where he lives by himself. Please pray for his salvation. W has now been there 8 weeks and has just finished his Methadone detox. He is doing well but please pray especially at this time of drug free living, which is a new experience for him. He professes faith and is looking to the Lord to help him in these difficult days.

Newcastle

On the streets of the city in mid-September, Ian Campbell was aware of an elderly man looking on inquisitively as he set up his board, but once the tract display was visible he began to move off. Ian asked if he was interested, to which he replied that he occasionally went to church. Ian then asked, "Could you tell me how to get to heaven?" He replied, "Oh you've got me stumped there!" He then told Ian that he was off to China for four weeks. He agreed when Ian said that he would be foolish to go to the airport without his passport, and then Ian told him that heaven too requires the passport of faith in Christ - we would be foolish to leave this life without it. He told Ian he should have been a salesman, but he left refusing to take any literature. M was also inquisitive but once he realised it was gospel preaching he turned on his heels with a look of disgust on his face. He was asked what it was about the message that so enraged him, and Ian asked him to justify his feelings. He was a medical student at Newcastle University, and as a follower of Darwinism he felt the gospel was total nonsense. After about over an hour's talking he did not shift ground but there were times when he was uncomfortable and challenged by what he heard. Pray that this may be a link in his chain of salvation.

West Yorkshire

The assembly at Skelmanthorpe appreciated a week's visit from Jonathan Black who ministered the Word and gave reports on the Lord's work in London at the Home Worker's Conference, and also presented the gospel at a senior citizens' tea. From Monday to Friday his Bible Exhibition was displayed and it was encouraging to have over 400 children from 8 different schools visit it during school hours. Six new children have come to the assembly's children's work following this. Some adults from the local community also came in during the general public sessions, some who had never been inside the hall before, and one man spent an hour in serious conversation about spiritual things. The assembly looks to the Lord that there might be lasting fruit for His glory from this special effort.

Wales

In September, Blair Martin was in Trimsaran where an encouraging start was made in a series of gospel meetings. A good number of local people came to the first meeting.

Ian and Rebecca Rees were encouraged with another Bible weekend at Hill. Most of the meetings and meals were held in a marquee on the lawn. Well over 80 attended giving rapt attention during studies on John 13. It is such a privilege to have a group like this to teach. Ian continues bi-weekly visits to Aberystwyth during term times, going through the book of Genesis on Monday evenings. A student from Aberystwyth who hails from Carmarthen was baptized in Carmarthen one Friday evening and has now come into fellowship in the little assembly in Aberystwyth. They are also delighted to see children at the new Sunday School in Carmarthen on Sunday mornings. The bi-weekly Youth Evenings on Friday nights also continue with large numbers of teenagers although these have been interrupted by conferences, special meetings and baptisms in the area.

Meetings continue every Lord's Day evening at "The Pulpit" in Tenby with about 30 people each week. He has a Thursday Bible study at which about a dozen go through basic Bible doctrines. They would love to have their own premises. There is a chapel for sale in the heart of Tenby, so they are praying about that, or the purchase of a shop to use instead.

Wallingford

L Craig was with the assembly for 2 weeks of Gospel Meetings in September/October. There were unsaved present each evening with one new contact coming every night.

Bicester and Bedminster Road, Bristol

J Dennison from the USA was with both assemblies for Ministry Meetings and there was a good interest in the excellent ministry, especially by significant numbers of young people.
