The Lord’s Work & Workers

SCOTLAND

Perth: An effort by the assembly to reach more children by a visit from Robert Plant for two weeks in May was very encouraging. He was able to get into several schools in the city and nearby towns and take a number of school assemblies. Children's meetings were held in a public hall in a large housing estate on the west side of Perth and these were very well attended, as were others in Bridge of Earn. It was heartening to see the good attention and good behaviour of the children as the meetings continued and the Scriptures were taught and memorised.

Camp Work: July and early August is the time when once again camps provide a great opportunity to reach many children and teenagers from all over the country with the Word of God. The Shetland camps will again be using their excellent facility near Sumburgh Airport with different groups for three weeks. Faskally House, Pitlochry, will be the venue for five weeks of different camps from Ayrshire, mid Scotland and Tayside, and the North-East. The Fife camp will travel into England, and others will be in rented premises in central Scotland. Please pray that camp organisers and leaders may know the Lord's leading in their extensive preparation and planning as well as in the day to day running of the camps, that they may have divine wisdom to deal with problems which often arise, that all may be kept in safety all of the time, that many young people will trust Christ for salvation, and that those who do profess salvation may be challenged to take further steps of faith and obedience to Christ in their teenage years.

During the summer holidays, Holiday Clubs which are planned in several places will also provide good opportunities to reach many boys and girls in their own localities, and through them to connect with parents and others. Pray that this work also may be blessed in similar ways.

The assembly at Forres had a week of meetings with Ainslie Paterson at the beginning of April. These commenced on the Friday with a "Friends and Neighbours" night. Folks were invited by means of personal hand-written invitations. The following week the theme was "Favourite Hymns". Five well known hymns were chosen, their truths being used for the basis of the gospel message as well as telling something of the story behind the hymn and its writer. The saints were encouraged to see a number of people from the town and district along, including some who have never been in the hall before.

The Fort William assembly requests prayer for tent meetings with Dan Gillies planned, God willing, for two weeks commencing on 20th July. The tent is to be pitched beside Caol Primary School, with children's meetings at 6.00pm and gospel meetings at 7.30pm.

There are quite a number of unsaved people in attendance who have links with believers, and some of them are showing a measure of interest.

Shanaghan: Gospel meetings in a portable hall in this country area commenced on 8th June with M Radcliffe and W Fenton.

Portavogie (New Road): The Annual Conference was held on Saturday, 15th March. Good numbers gathered for the ministry which opened on the person of Christ who was to the fore through the practical teaching as to our walk. The doctrines of the gospel were strongly defended. Sharing in the ministry were Robert Miller (Scotland), B Currie, M Radcliffe, B Hull, J Fleck, T Bentley, and T Meekin. R Miller continued for a few nights and his ministry was much appreciated by the assembly.

Gortade: D McGarvey, and the assembly, have had six weeks of gospel meetings. There were testimonies each evening by visiting brethren. Some unsaved were in the hall for the first time.

Regarding others, the Day will declare it.

The conference was followed by a week's ministry meetings conducted by brother Gene Higgins on the subject "Egypt to Canaan". At the end of May brother Sam McBride had seven nights of Bible Readings using his prophetic chart. NORTH-EAST

Believers in the north-east of England enjoyed rich and profitable ministry at the annual Easter Conference. Ministering brethren were J Holifield of South Wales and M Radcliffe of Northern Ireland.

Jim McMaster was with the assembly at Pallion Road, Sunderland for children's meetings from 21st-25th April. A good number of children including some in their early teens attended each evening and showed great interest and enthusiasm. Several learned verses from the Scripture and were able to recite them word perfect. On each evening the gospel was simply but clearly preached and the claims of Christ made known. Parents attended, largely to collect children, except on the last night when a number attended for the whole service. Prayer would be appreciated that the seed sown may come to fruition in salvation.

The assembly at Red Row, Northumberland had a week of children's meetings at the beginning of April with Ian Campbell. Up to 22 children attended nightly despite there not being a regular children's work. Three school visits were undertaken. Please pray for the seed sown.

The assembly held its Annual Conference in May when David Tinkler, from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, gave ministry and a report of the work the Lord has called him to. A profitable time for all present. The believers were greatly encouraged by the support given from assemblies in the area - the attendance was the largest for some years. The assembly appreciates the fellowship of believers holidaying in Northumberland, some travelling many miles to gather with the Saints to remember the Lord.

Bicester: Four weeks of meetings in a Community Centre with Murray McCandless saw over 100 different unsaved coming in to hear the gospel. The neutral location again proved effective. The Lord has dealt with some souls revealing where they stand, and we trust salvation will yet be their experience.

Pamber Heath: Two weeks of meetings with Terry Topley and Joe Baxter saw over 50 different unsaved present to hear the gospel, many of them new faces in the Hall. The door-to-door visitation proved encouraging.

WEST MIDLANDS

Birmingham, Northfield: The Annual Conference was a time of good ministry with support from saints far and near. A Maunder and C Roberts ministered the Word.

Broadwas on Teme: E Hughes and G Davies were responsible for the last two Saturday ministry meetings in the 2007/08 programme. The saints found help and encouragement.

Malvern: The Annual Conference at Cowleigh Road had ministry from R Brind and J Scarsbrook this year.

Redditch, Batchley Estate: The final Saturday ministry meeting in the latest series saw J Burnett give a missionary report whilst D Spence ministered the Word.
