The Lord’s Work & Workers

SCOTLAND

The assembly at Culloden held a special Gospel Weekend in February with Ian Rees from Bath responsible for the preaching. The response was encouraging with several unbelievers present at each meeting. Some had never been in the hall before and possibly had never heard the gospel before. Several teenage boys from the area attended two of the meetings, settled down and listened well, and had questions when the meetings finished. Please pray that those who heard the Word will respond. Some have promised to come to the regular gospel meetings. The assembly was encouraged by the response and appreciated the support of believers from surrounding assemblies.

At Kennoway, Fife, the assembly has arranged monthly meetings on a Friday evening on published subjects of topical interest. So far these have been on The Reliability of the Manuscripts of Scripture, by Simon Sherwin of Innerleven, and Outreach to HM Armed Forces, by Mel Moodie of Dunfermline. On both occasions the meetings were well attended by those who would not normally come to the weekly gospel meetings, and an appropriate message in the gospel was given.

N. IRELAND

Co. ANTRIM

Antrim: Gospel meetings were continuing at the end of February with D Gilliland and J Rogers. There has been encouragement in salvation, others are concerned, and presently there is a burden that there may be further blessing.

Ballyduff: Gospel meetings were continuing into the third week at the beginning of March with J Baxter (Scotland) and T Topley. Pray for blessing in this large needy area in Newtownabbey.

Ballintoy: Gospel meetings continue in a portable hall in W J Brown's yard. Speakers: N Coulter and D Ussher. Prayer appreciated. It is proving difficult to encourage neighbours to attend.

Broughshane: Meetings in the portable hall at Mr Davidson's yard were very well attended and concluded on 22nd February after six weeks' preaching. B Currie and A Caldwell spoke, with help given each night, and extensive visitation of the area was also carried out.

Co. ARMAGH

Drumacanver: A portable hall has been erected at Cormean on the Armagh/Monaghan border. W Fenton and S Wells are preaching the gospel, and as at 20th February the meetings are into their sixth week. Many unsaved are attending, and one has already professed faith in Christ.

Lurgan: Gospel meetings in a portable hall in the town centre continue into a fifth week as at 20th February. Attendance is excellent with many complete strangers coming. Preachers: J Fleck and M Turkington.

Portadown Gospel Hall: R McKeown and W Martin are preaching the gospel. The town has been very well visited with invitations resulting in many locals coming, to the encouragement of all concerned.

Co. DOWN

Ballymacashon Gospel Hall: L Craig and P McCauley have been much encouraged along with the believers during a five week gospel series which concluded on 24th February. A good number of locals attended over the period. The gospel was simply and clearly presented each night with the power of God manifested. It gave great joy when two young men (brothers) from a Christian family, for whom much prayer had been made, got saved. Please pray that these young men will be strengthened and go on for the Lord and be a blessing to others. L Craig purposes to follow up with a week of ministry commencing on 10th March.

Banbridge Gospel Hall: J Bingham and N Fleck are conducting a gospel series in the town. They are finding it difficult to interest local people to attend on a consistent basis. The meetings were continuing at the end of February.

Cardy Gospel Hall: Good numbers of local people have been in attendance for a number of weeks listening with interest to the simple gospel preached by M Radcliffe. The Lord has been pleased to bless in salvation.

Kilkeel Gospel Hall: The series of gospel meetings conducted by S Nelson and A Wilson were continuing at the end of February. There has been encouragement with fruit in the meetings.

Mullafernaghan Gospel Hall: R Pickering and T Wallace were continuing into a fifth week of gospel meetings at the beginning of March. The area has been well visited with invitations and tracts but the response has been disappointing. There has, however, been encouragement in that a man brought by a Christian friend has professed to be saved. The assembly is expecting M Radcliffe for ministry from 13th to 17th April. Please pray for blessing in the upbuilding of the testimony.

Newry: A short series of gospel meetings convened in a room in a hotel on the outskirts of this city has been a time of some blessing in salvation. The meetings were conducted by C Law and B Martin and were well attended. The gospel was simply preached with interest and power.

A Christian lady hired a taxi to bring her to the meeting one evening. She invited the taxi driver to come into the meeting. He came in, heard the gospel, and professed faith in Christ that evening. Please pray for this man that he may go on with the Lord.

Co. TYRONE

Aughavey: D McGarvey continued in the gospel during the month of February with interest and blessing in this country area. The district has been well visited and the good seed sown in many hearts.

Martry: B Glendinning and T Wright have been with the small assembly for some weeks, preaching the gospel nightly and visiting the homes of the people during the day. Pray that the good seed sown will bring forth fruit.

Strabane: A Davidson and S Gilfillan have been labouring in the gospel in this border town for six weeks as at the beginning of March. Whilst the assembly is numerically weak, Christians from around the area gave support. The town and area have been left without excuse as the Word of God has been faithfully declared.

BELFAST

Ballysillan Gospel Hall: N Emerson conducted a short gospel series which commenced on 24th February. On the opening evening a lady for whom the assembly had been praying professed faith in Christ to the encouragement of the company.

Bloomfield Gospel Hall: The assembly has again acquired the suitable site in Dixon Park, on Grand Parade. It is purposed in the will of God to erect a portable hall and convene gospel meetings which are to commence in mid April. The evangelists expected are R McKeown and J Rogers.

The experience of the past has shown that local people feel free to come to a neutral venue rather than to the gospel hall. Prayer would be appreciated for blessing in salvation on this effort.

Parkgate Avenue Gospel Hall: Gospel meetings are commencing (God willing) on 30th March with W Fenton and M McKillen. A prayerful interest and support will be appreciated.

The assemblies in the North-East of England have continued their monthly meetings at Jarrow on the first Saturday in each month with Bible Readings and Ministry. On 5th January Ian Jackson led the Bible Reading in Hebrews 11.23-40. In the evening he spoke in ministry on portions in John 17. On 2nd February Alastair Sinclair led the Reading in Hebrews 12 and in the evening ministered on portions in the letter to the Hebrews including chs.10, 12 and 13.

On 12th January the assemblies in the North-East convened their annual Home Workers Conference. The meeting was held in the Gospel Hall, Coach Lane, North Shields and Blair Martin was present to give helpful ministry from Exodus 33. He also gave a report on the Lord's work in Fauldhouse and Whitburn. The meeting was to the profit of all and gave valuable material for prayers and praise.

WEST MIDLANDS

Solihull: The assembly and saints from other assemblies were much helped by ministry from John 17 given by G Stewart as part of their monthly Saturday meetings.

Tipton: The Black Country, an industrial area to the north of Birmingham, for many years had a series of monthly Bible Teaching meetings during the winter months. These were held at Hill Top, West Bromwich, but now the Gospel Hall, Tipton is the venue. R Herbert, P Hill, C Lacey, J Coltman, and M Erwin have given help over the last five months.
