SCOTLAND Reports

The North-east: Ian Affleck had another opportunity to go to India with Phil Coulson in December. They visited two of the fishing villages, which, following the Tsunami disaster, had received new boats via the India Trust Fund, supported by many in the UK, and were able to see the boats and also the method of fishing. Ian was sure that fishermen back home would be interested in this. Through the assembly at Avoch opportunity was furnished to give a report with the fishing community in mind. With the help of Ainslie Paterson, a Power Point presentation was made, entitled After the Storm. The local believers worked hard to advertise and to invite friends and neighbours. It was held on 17th January in the community centre, with the gospel presented at the end. Surrounding assemblies supported well and 28 local people came, to the encouragement of the few saints in Avoch. On 27th & 28th January similar presentations were made to six classes at Lossiemouth High School, including pupils from years 1 - 4. Again there was an opportunity to present the gospel, and they were invited back the following week to address another four classes. Prayer is valued that the Lord will lead on from both these opportunities and enable further developments.

In Scalloway, Shetland, the assembly was encouraged by a two week visit of Stephen Grant in February. Good numbers were present at the children’s meetings, and the gospel meetings were very well supported by other assemblies, with unsaved folk present each evening. Stephen was also able to take classes in the local school. Prayer would be appreciated for the Lord’s blessing upon His Word.

In Cullen, Jack Hay conducted two weeks’ meetings on prophesy towards the end of February. The assembly was encouraged by the excellent numbers attending and by the quality of the ministry. A good number were hearing these truths taught in a systematic way for the first time. Each Lord’s Day the gospel was preached in community halls in Portknockie and in Cullen. Again prayer is valued.

Falkirk: Roy Marshall and George Meikle have just concluded door-to-door visitation in the Hallglen and Princess Park areas of Falkirk, followed by a Seedsowers distribution in the Tamfourhill area of the town. Results were disappointing, with a few contacts but general apathy. Our brethren hope to begin meetings in some of the villages of Fife in early March, and would value the prayers of the saints for guidance and blessing.
